History Teacher
Boston University Academy is seeking a full-time history teacher to begin in August 2022. Primary responsibilities include teaching four sections of history. The course load will most likely include American history and other offerings; course placements are still being developed for next year, and we have some flexibility to tailor the teaching load to the strengths and interests of the candidate. The teacher will join a four-person department committed to discussion-based classes, intensive primary source work, interdisciplinary connections, and a focus on analytical writing. BUA faculty are also involved outside the classroom in a variety of ways, including advising, chaperoning trips and events, and leading extracurricular activities.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years of teaching experience, an advanced degree in history or a related field, a student-centered approach, deep and diverse historical interests, and a passion for working with high school students. Experience and a passion for curriculum design are a plus. For all positions, we look for candidates who enjoy working with colleagues in a collaborative environment, who are flexible and creative, who will fully engage in the life of the school, and who are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable community.
As the only high school in New England that is part of a major research university, Boston University Academy (BUA) offers students who love learning both a traditional, caring independent school experience and access to a broad range of university courses. They come from 56 cities and towns in the Greater Boston area. 59% of students identify as students of color. 30% of students are on financial aid — a reflection of BUA’s commitment to equity and access.
