College Admission Officers

This section provides college counseling information for College Admissions Officers reading applications from BUA students or visiting the Academy building throughout the school year. Information available includes a school profile, Boston University Academy & University coursework overviews, and directions and parking.

Thank you for your interest in Boston University Academy.  As former admission officers, we understand the service you provide our students as you race around the country meeting with as many high schoolers as you can, decipher hundreds (or thousands!) of transcripts, wade through essays and teacher recommendations, and ultimately try to find the right match between qualified candidates and your institution.  We hope the information provided here facilitates your experience visiting our campus and/or reading applications from BUA students.

COVID-19 Response

In March 2020, BUA and BU moved to remote learning for the remainder of the spring semester. BUA courses (both semester- and year-long) followed the standard grading scale; per BU policy, and in recognition of the challenges and inequities of the unexpected move to virtual learning, students who took a spring 2020 course at BU could opt for the letter grade earned or a ‘Credit’ or ‘No Credit’ mark. BUA and BU began fall 2020 with the Learning from Anywhere (LfA) model, a hybrid of in-person, remote, synchronous, and asynchronous learning.

Reading BUA Student Applications

As you read our students’ applications, please do not hesitate to be in touch with any questions.  We hope that our transcripts, school forms (when used in place of standard forms), and recommendation letters are clear and informative.  The following links may be helpful in understanding our program:

Visiting Boston University Academy

We typically host between 65 and 80 visiting college admission officers each fall.  Admission representatives meet with interested seniors (and sometimes juniors) in the College Office at almost any time between 8am and 3pm.  If no students are available, one of us will meet with you to learn more about your institution.

We are located in the middle of the Boston University campus, immediately next to the George Sherman Union (with a Starbucks, a food court, a convenience store, and ATMs).

Nearby schools that you may consider visiting before or after BUA: Winsor School (Boston), Commonwealth School (Boston), Match Charter School (Boston), Brookline HS (Brookline), BB&N (Cambridge), or Cambridge Rindge & Latin (Cambridge).

Due to the unpredictability of traffic and public transportation, we encourage you to allow a few extra minutes for your travel time to campus.

By Public Transportation

Take the MBTA Green Line “B” trolley to the Boston University Central stop. Keeping the Marsh Chapel on your right and Radio Shack on your left, walk one block west to University Road and the Academy entrance.

By Car

Plug the following address into your GPS:
1 University Road, Boston, MA 02215

Parking is available in the Upper Bridge Lot (Lot H), adjacent to the Academy building. The parking lot entrance is on University Road where it intersects with Commonwealth Avenue.  Please pull up to the parking lot attendant.  S/he will have your name and a visitor’s pass allowing you to park in this lot.  If this lot is full, the parking lot attendant may direct you to park across the street at 808 Commonwealth Avenue. There are also parking meters on Commonwealth Avenue a block west of our school building.

Watch a helpful video of how to park at BUA here.

To schedule a visit to BUA, or to speak with one of us about any of our students or our program, please contact Director of College Counseling Jill Atkinson.
