Maria Khoobyar

Music Teaching Assistant

Maria Khoobyar is a doctoral candidate in vocal performance at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. A native of Washington, DC, she lived in Houston, Texas for over a decade performing and teaching opera, singing seasons with the Houston Grand Opera. She earned her master’s degree in vocal performance and pedagogy from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music in 2018. After earning her master’s, Maria taught in the Moores School of Music Continuing Studies Department, and as an adjunct voice and music teacher in Lone Star College’s Department of Fine Arts. From 2010-2016 Maria performed with the Houston Grand Opera Chorus, most notably in the 2016 world premiere of Carisle Floyd’s Prince of Players and in HGO’s North American premiere and Lincoln Center Festival performances of Mieczysław Weinburg’s The Passenger.
