Spaces are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please use <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/gposd6dtYn8xt2dz7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>this form<\/span><\/a><span> to indicate which courses you are interested in registering for. <strong>Please complete the form by Monday, April 19.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The summer course offerings are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #007b8b;\"><strong>June 28-July 2 &amp; July 5-9<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The History and Performance of Musical Theatre<\/strong><br \/>\nDr. Brett Abiga<span>\u00f1<\/span>a and Mr. Bill Gardiner<br \/>\n12:30-2:30 p.m.<br \/>\n<span>In this summer course, we will explore the rich history of Music Theatre, focusing on important trends, shows, composers, and writers. Students will also have the opportunity to perform and record scenes or songs from some of the shows we discuss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Story of Your Arrival: The Art of Translation<br \/>\n<\/strong>Dr. Pat Larash and Dr. Carlos Martinez<br \/>\n12:30-2:30 p.m.<br \/>\nThis class will explore translation in various forms using Ted Chiang\u2019s short novella\u00a0<em>Story of Your Life<\/em>\u00a0and the movie adaption\u00a0<em>Arrival\u00a0<\/em>as a focus. We will investigate how these texts are both about translation and, in the case of the film, \u00a0a kind of \u2018translation\u2019 itself.\u00a0Together, we will think through ways that films more generally attempt to capture the letter or spirit of a text and why and how some films branch into fully novel interpretation.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #007b8b;\"><strong>July 12-16 &amp; July 19-23<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Gilgamesh and the World of Myth<\/strong><br \/>\nMrs. Olive Brown and Dr. Pat Larash<br \/>\n9:00-11:00 a.m.<br \/>\nEncounter bold warriors, rivalries, friendship, treachery, grief, and wisdom as we read the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh and explore Greek mythology together. \u00a0We will practice the reading, discussion, and writing skills you&#8217;ll need in a BUA classroom, plus spend some time on a creative side project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Food Lab: Chemistry of Cooking<\/strong><br \/>\nMs. Victoria Perrone and Dr. Rosemary White<br \/>\n9:00-11:00 a.m.<br \/>\nIn this class, you will become an experimental scientist in your very own kitchen laboratory! We will explore topics of food science including baking, emulsions, flavors, and The Poison Squad, and make some delicious treats along the way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BUA On The Air<\/strong><br \/>\nDr. Brett Abiga\u00f1a and Mr. Bill Gardiner<br \/>\n12:30-2:30 p.m.<br \/>\nStudents will construct, rehearse, and record a radio variety show exploring and learning the various techniques associated with such a performance.
