Barbara Rotger

Barbara Rotger is Manager of Boston University’s Gastronomy Program, a first-of- its-
kind academic food studies program founded by Julia Child and Jacques Pépin. An avid
collector of recipes boxes and manuscript cookbooks, her Master’s thesis proposes a
methodology for analyzing these collections as historical, cultural, and gendered
artifacts. Prior to her work in food studies, Barbara directed after-school Spanish and
French classes for Melrose Global Child, and served as Administrator of Harvard
University’s Ukrainian Research Institute. She holds a MLA in Gastronomy from Boston
University and a BA in Russian Studies from Brown University.  Barbara’s two children
have studied at BU Academy.
